Weise inks two-year contract

The Montreal Canadiens have re-signed pending free agent forward Dale Weise to a two-year contract.

Weise, 25, was acquired from the Vancouver Canucks on February 3, 2014, in return for defenseman Raphael Diaz.

"The acquisition of Dale Weise contributed to the success of our team this season," said Habs GM Marc Bergevin. "A young veteran with a lot of character, Dale is an intense player with a strong work ethic. We're very pleased to have him as part of our team moving forward."

In 61 games with the Canadiens and the Canucks this season, Weise recorded six goals, and 10 assists for 16 points.

Weise has accumulated 30 points (13 goals, 17 assists) in 179 regular season contests since his NHL debut with the New York Rangers in 2010-11.

A native of Winnipeg, Weise was drafted by the Rangers in the fourth-round, 111th overall, of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
