Subban, Habs to begin talks

Contract negotiations between the Montreal Canadiens and defenseman P.K. Subban are expected to get underway later this month.

Mark Guy, who represents Subban along with Don Meehan, told TFP the two sides have not yet started discussions.

Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin has been focused on re-signing pending unrestricted free agent Andrei Markov.

Subban, 25, is set to become a restricted free agent July 1 and talks will begin later this month.

In 82 games with the Canadiens this season, Subban registered 10 goals and 43 assists for 53 points.

It's believed Subban will be looking for a contract worth more than $8 million per season over eight years.
