Canadiens sign Murray to one-year deal

The Montreal Canadiens have signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Douglas Murray to a one-year contract worth $1.5 million.

Murray, 33, played in 43 games with the San Jose Sharks and Pittsburgh Penguins last season.

He registered one goal, five assists and 35 penalty minutes with the Sharks and Penguins.

In eight NHL seasons, Murray has played in 465 games with San Jose and Pittsburgh and has accumulated seven goals and 55 assists for 62 points, along with 370 penalty minutes.

He was originally drafted by the Sharks in the eighth-round (241st overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
