Savard meets with Roy as GM search carries on TheFourthPeriod.com
Speculation around the Montreal Canadiens potentially having former goaltender Patrick Roy back in the organization intensified on Wednesday as team advisor Serve Savard revealed that he had met with the Quebec Remparts' coach and GM about his future plans.
Savard, who was asked to help Habs owner and president Geoff Molson search for a new GM, stated that although he had spoken to Roy last week, he did not offer him the position, nor the head coaching job with the team.
"It was not a formal interview," Savard told RDS' Renaud Lavoie. "I just wanted to know his intentions."
Rumors on Roy as a candidate for either position picked up again last week after the Remparts were eliminated from the post-season.
While many believe Roy would become the new Canadiens' coach regardless of who turns out to be the new GM, Savard quickly dismissed the possibility, stating that the team will fill the vacant GM post before they find their new head coach.
