Habs trade Gill to Predators
TheFourthPeriod.com

The Montreal Canadiens have traded defenseman Hal Gill and a conditional 2013 fifth-round draft pick to the Nashville Predators for center Blake Geoffrion, left wing Robert Slaney and a 2012 second-round draft pick.

Gill, 36, played in 53 games with the Habs this season, including his 1,000th career NHL game. He has tallied one goal and seven assists for eight points this season, along with 29 penalty minutes.

"Hal Gill brings our team a number of elements – size, penalty-killing ability, depth on defense and playoff experience," Predators GM David Poile said. "He has won a Stanley Cup and played a combined 69 playoff games over the last four years, experience that significantly benefits our team."

In 1,047 career NHL games with Boston, Toronto, Pittsburgh and Montreal, Gill has accumulated 36 goals and 143 assists for 179 points, and 940 penalty minutes.

Gill was originally drafted by the Bruins in the eighth-round (207th overall) of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.

Geoffrion, 24, registered three assists and 17 penalty minutes in 22 games with the Predators this season.

Born in Plantation, Florida, Geoffrion was originally drafted by the Predators in the second-round (56th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Geoffrion's grandfather Bernie (Boom Boom) and great grandfather Howie Morenz are Hall of Fame NHL stars, playing with the Canadiens. His father, Danny, also played for the Habs.
