Habs happy current roster

The Canadiens stood back and opted against making any major moves yesterday, something management was happy to do, reports the Montreal Gazette.

Canadiens GM Pierre Gauthier completed one trade late Tuesday, sending Matt D'Agostini to St. Louis for prospect Aaron Palushaj, but was inactive on trade deadline day.

Gauthier and his staff remained in Boston yesterday -- the rest of the team flew to San Jose -- incase an offer came their way they simply couldn't refuse.

According to Gauthier, the Canadiens already addressed their needs by calling up forward Mathieu Darche and acquiring center Dominic Moore from Florida prior to the Olympic trade freeze.

"We wanted to make the deal for Moore when we did because we wanted him to play some games with us and then have those five days of practice at the end of the Olympic break," Gauthier told the Gazette.

The Canadiens were shopping veteran defenseman Paul Mara, who will be an unrestricted free agent July 1, but did not find any takers.

The priority for Gauthier and the Canadiens now centers around Tomas Plekanec.

Plekanec is in the final year of his contract and negotiations have already begun with his agent Rick Curran about a new contract.
