According to RDS.ca, the Montreal Canadiens have started contract talks with unrestricted free agent defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron.
With Andrei Markov out three-to-four months with torn tendons in his left ankle, and Ryan O'Byrne out for several weeks with a lower-body injury, the Canadiens are in need of some help on the blueline.
The Habs had already called up Yannick Weber from the AHL, but news of O'Byrne's injury has forced the team to look for outside help.
In 72 games with the Minnesota Wild last season, Bergeron scored 14 goals and added 18 assists for 32 points. He made just over $1.6 million last season.

The Habs need someone with an offensive mind to help them in the back end and Bergeron's the best free agent still available. For the time being, it makes sense. -- David Pagnotta
