The Montreal Canadiens have signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Paul Mara to a one-year contract and center Travis Moen to a three-year deal.
"Paul Mara will bring size and experience to our group of defensemen," said Habs GM Bob Gainey. "He can contribute to all facets of the game."
Last season, Mara tallied 5 goals and 16 assists for 21 points, with 94 penalty minutes.
In 10 NHL seasons, the 29-year-old has accumulated 63 goals and 176 assists for 239 points, with 640 penalty minutes in 639 regular season games, with Tampa Bay, Phoenix, Boston, and the New York Rangers.
Mara was selected in the first round by the Tampa Bay Lightning, 7th overall, at the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
Moen, meanwhile, played in 82 games with the Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks last season and posted seven goals, nine assists and 91 penalty minutes.
"Travis Moen is a character player. He is versatile, and he plays hard. His size and style will contribute to adding physicality to our team," said Gainey.
In five NHL seasons, the 27-year-old amassed 29 goals and 27 assists for 56 points, along with 487 penalty minutes in 362 regular-season games, with the Chicago Blackhawks, Ducks and Sharks.
A native of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Moen was a member of the 2007 Stanley Cup Champion Ducks. He was selected in the fifth round by the Calgary Flames, 155th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
