Kovalev no longer in Montreal's plans

TheFourthPeriod.com

TFP Editor-in-Chief David Pagnotta is reporting that the Montreal Canadiens are no longer an option for unrestricted free agent right wing Alex Kovalev.

Yesterday, the Habs pitched a two-year offer, believed to be in between $8.5 million to $9 million per season.

However, with the Canadiens signing Mike Cammalleri and Brian Gionta to new deals, Montreal GM Bob Gainey pulled Kovalev's offer from the table.

It was originally thought the Habs would approach Kovalev with another offer, however Kovalev's agent, Scott Greenspun, told TFP the Canadiens are no longer in the mix.

Kovalev is reviewing "several offers" and it's likely he won't sign a contract with a team until later in the week.

Yesterday, the Habs informed center Saku Koivu, who had been the Habs captain for 10 seasons, that he was not being brought back.
