Wild, Sabres discussing Halak trade

The Minnesota Wild and Buffalo Sabres are in the middle of trade negotiations involving veteran goaltender Jaroslav Halak.

Halak, 28, is set to become an unrestricted free agent July 1 and the Sabres are poised to trade him before Wednesday's 3pm ET deadline.

The Sabres acquired Halak, along with right wing Chris Stewart, a prospect and draft picks, on Feb. 28 from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for Ryan Miller and Steve Ott.

Minnesota has been in the market for a netminder, exploring the availability of Halak, New Jersey Devils superstar Martin Brodeur and Edmonton Oilers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov, among others.

Brodeur is reportedly willing to waive his no-trade clause for the Wild, but Minnesota GM Chuck Fletcher is primarily focused on acquiring Halak.

The Sabres are looking for a good prospect and a draft pick as part of a deal for Halak, though the asking price could change based on what the Wild is willing to move.
