Wild might look at trading Gaborik TheFourthPeriod.com
If the Wild cannot sign Marian Gaborik to a contract extension before the start of the season, they might consider trading him.
According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Wild GM Doug Risebrough has not had any trade talks with other GMs about Gaborik.
"I think it would be prudent to [extend his] contract before the start of the season. That's all I'm dealing with right now," Risebrough told the paper.
Risebrough and Wild assistant GM Tom Lynn met with Gaborik in Slovakia last week.
The two men left the meeting feeling positive about the possibility of extension Gaborik's contract.
Gaborik, who will earn $7.5 million this coming season, is one-year away from becoming an unrestricted free agent.
The Star-Tribune claims the Wild plans to make its first proposal in the coming days.
