Gaborik, Wild discussed extension

  The Minnesota Wild and star winger Marian Gaborik met this week in Slovakia to discuss a long-term contract extension, sources tell TFP.

Wild GM Doug Risebrough and Assistant GM Tom Lynn met with Gaborik in his home town of Trencin earlier this week.

Gaborik, who scored 42 goals and added 41 assists for 83 points with the Wild last season, is set to make $7.5 million in 2008-09.

He can become an unrestricted free agent next summer, but the two sides are trying to avoid that.

   
The Wild want to lock up Gaborik to a long-term extension, and the 26-year-old could make around $8.5 million per year on a new deal.
