Knights looking to trade Shipachyov

It appears center Vadim Shipachyov's tenure with the Vegas Golden Knights will be short-lived, as the team has given his agent permission to speak with other teams about trading for his client.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman first reported the news via Twitter late Wednesday afternoon, upon which Shipachyov's agent Petr Svoboda confirmed the story to TSN's Darren Dreger.

The Golden Knights have already been actively entertaining trade calls for some of their defensemen and have been trying to reduce their defensive corps. It's possible the team tries to package a defenseman with Shipachyov in a trade.

Vegas signed Shipachyov to a two-year, $9 million contract in the summer and have already paid him $2 million in signing bonus. Which team acquires him is only on the hook for the remainder of his $3 million salary this season and his $4 million salary next season, though his annual salary cap hit remains $4.5 million.

TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie reported the Montreal Canadiens are not one of the teams interested in the 30-year-old center, who has one goal in three games with the Knights and has since been sent back down to the AHL.
