Kings sign coach Sutter to new contract

The Los Angeles Kings have signed head coach Darryl Sutter to a two-year contract extension with a team option for a third season.

Sutter, the 24th head coach in team history, wrapped up his fifth season as coach of the Kings after joining the club on Dec. 20, 2011.

He is the fastest head coach to reach 100 wins in franchise history, and helped guide the team to two Stanley Cup Championships in 2012 and 2014.

Sutter's 595 career wins as an NHL coach currently rank 14th all-time.

He was previously the GM of the Calgary Flames and he held that position from the 2003-04 season until he resigned on Dec. 28, 2010. Sutter also served as Calgary's Head Coach from 2002-06, coach of the San Jose Sharks for parts of six seasons (1997-2003), and coach of the Chicago Blackhawks from 1992-95.
