Moulson has been highly coveted by several teams, including the Anaheim Ducks, Ottawa Senators, New Jersey Devils and San Jose Sharks, among others.
Sabres GM Tim Murray originally demanded top Kings prospect Tyler Toffoli to be included in a deal for Moulson, but TFP Senior Writer Dennis Bernstein reported Tuesday night that Murray has eased off of that request.
The Sabres are interested in young center Linden Vey and right wing Tanner Pearson, and the Kings could include one of them in a package for Moulson, if a deal gets done. Kings forward Kyle Clifford is also believed to be involved in trade discussions.
The Kings have also expressed an interest in Sabres defenseman Christian Ehrhoff, and to a lesser extent, Henrik Tallinder.
If the Kings are unable to acquire Moulson, they will shift their focus on Columbus Blue Jackets sniper Marian Gaborik and former King and current Calgary Flame Mike Cammalleri.
