Mitchell inks two-year extension

The Los Angeles Kings have signed defenseman Willie Mitchell to a two-year, $7 million contract extension.

Mitchell, 34, has eight goals and 14 assists for 22 points in 112 career regular-season games in Los Angeles since signing as a free agent on Aug. 25, 2010.

This season, Mitchell has three goals and nine assists for 12 points, with 32 penalty minutes, in 55 regular season games.

Mitchell, a native of Port McNeill, British Columbia, was originally selected by New Jersey in the eighth-round (199th overall) of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.

He has accumulated 27 goals, 114 assists, 141 points, 674 penalty minutes and a plus-88 rating in 698 career NHL regular season games with the Kings, Canucks, Stars, Wild and Devils.
