Johnson could fetch top-scorer
TheFourthPeriod.com

Los Angeles Kings GM Dean Lombardi is itching to acquire a top-line goal-scorer, and could be luring defenseman Jack Johnson to other teams around the league.

The Kings sit last in the NHL in goal-per-game, scoring an average of 2.11 goals per game, despite sitting seventh in the Western Conference with 62 points.

Lombardi has been searching for a top-six forward for some time, but has come up empty.

Veterans Ray Whitney of the Phoenix Coyotes and Jeff Carter of the Columbus Blue Jackets are two players the Kings are interested in, though the Coyotes might refrain from dealing Whitney as they're battling for a playoff spot.

Carter, meanwhile, has been discussed by Kings management, but no offers have been made, as of Wednesday morning.

Johnson, 25, is in the first-year of a seven-year contract that possesses an annual salary cap hit of $4.357 million. Several teams have shown an interest in him, including the Philadelphia Flyers, but it's uncertain if anything is imminent.

In 54 games with the Kings so far this season, Johnson has registered eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points.
