Kings looking for big splash

The Los Angeles Kings are believed to be shopping for a top-line forward and a top-four defenseman to help solidify a playoff birth this season.

Currently in 12th position in the Western Conference, though two points out of a playoff spot, Kings GM Dean Lombardi is kicking the tires and hopes to make another trade in the coming weeks.

The Kings acquired left wing Marco Sturm from the Boston Bruins last month.

According to various reports, the Kings are dangling the likes of Wayne Simmonds and Thomas Hickey as trade bait.

It's believed Brayden Schenn has attracted a lot of interest, as well. While Lombardi would consider a move involving his prized prospect if the Kings were to acquire a young, first-line forward, such a deal is not likely.

The Kings have reportedly inquired about Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Francois Beauchemin, Edmonton Oilers forward Ales Hemsky and Buffalo Sabres winger Thomas Vanek.
