Kings sign Ponikarovsky to 1-year deal

The Los Angeles Kings have signed unrestricted free agent forward Alexei Ponikarovsky to a one-year contract.

Ponikarovsky collected 21 goals and 29 assists for 50 points in 77 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Pittsburgh Penguins last season. The native of Kiev, Ukraine, was traded by the Leafs to the Penguins on Mar. 3, 2010 in exchange for forward Luca Caputi and defenseman Martin Skoula.

The 6-4, 229-pound left wing has scored 116 goals and added 150 assists in 493 games since being drafted in the fourth round, 87th overall in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
