The Los Angeles Kings were involved in a three-way trade on deadline day, acquiring right wing Justin Williams from the Hurricanes Hurricanes.
In order to obtain Williams, the Kings traded forward Patrick O'Sullivan and a 2009 second-round draft pick (originally Calgary's) to the Hurricanes.
Carolina then dealt O'Sullivan and its own 2009 second-round pick to the Edmonton Oilers for left wing Erik Cole and the Oilers' 2009 fifth-round pick.
Williams, 27, has played in 32 games with the Hurricanes this season and has registered three goals, seven assists and nine penalty minutes. He is currently on the injured reserve list due to a broken hand he suffered during a game on Feb. 15.
Williams won the Stanley Cup in 2006 with Carolina. He has played in 491 career NHL games with the Hurricanes and the Philadelphia Flyers, and has accumulated 124 goals and 192 assists for 316 points. He was originally drafted 28th overall by the Flyers in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
Cole, 30, has colected 16 goals and 11 assists in 63 games with the Oilers this season.
In 481 career NHL games with Carolina and Edmonton, Cole has recorded 145 goals, 162 assists and 469 penalty minutes.
He was originally drafted by Carolina in the third round of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
O'Sullivan, 24, played in 62 games with the Kings this season, registering 14 goals, 23 assists and 16 penalty minutes.
The native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, has totaled 41 goals, 68 assists and 66 penalty minutes in 188 career games since playing his first NHL game with Los Angeles in 2006-07.
He was originally drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the second round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
