The Florida Panthers have acquired left wing Thomas Vanek to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for defenseman Dylan McIlrath and a 2017 conditional third-round draft pick.
As per the condition of the third-round pick, if the Panthers make the playoffs, the Red Wings will receive the Arizona Coyotes' third-round pick in 2017.
The Red Wings have also retained 50 percent of Vanek's remaining contract.
Vanek, 33, is on a one-year, $2.6 million contract and can become an unrestricted free agent July 1.
In 865 career NHL regular-season games with the Buffalo Sabres, New York Islanders, Montreal Canadiens, Minnesota Wild and Red Wings, Vanek has accumulated 331 goals and 356 assists for 687 points, and 479 penalty minutes.
Vanek was selected fifth-overall by the Sabres in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
McIlrath, 24, scored one goal and picked up 10 penalty minutes in five games with the Panthers this season.
In 43 career NHL regular-season games with the New York Rangers and Panthers, McIlrath has registered three goals, two assists and 94 penalty minutes.
He was drated 10th overall by the Rangers in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
