Panthers re-sign Matthias

The Florida Panthers have re-signed restricted free agent center Shawn Matthias to a two-year, $3.5 million contract.

Matthias, 25, registered 14 goals and seven assists for 21 points in 48 games with the Panthers this past season.

The native of Mississauga, Ontario, has played in 253 career NHL regular-seaason games, all with the Panthers, and has accumulated 39 goals and 42 assists for 81 points.

Originally drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the second-round (47th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Matthias was traded to Florida on Feb. 27, 2007 along with two draft picks for Todd Bertuzzi.
