Jovanovski undergoes surgery

Florida Panthers defenseman Ed Jovanovski underwent surgery on Wednesday to fix a hand injury he suffered on Monday against the Boston Bruins, the Sun-Sentinel reports.

Although a full recovery is expected, the 35-year-old is out indefinitely and could miss up to two months of action.

The veteran blueliner sustained the injury in a first-period fight with the Bruins forward Daniel Paille.

Jovanovski was selected first overall by the Panthers in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. He returned to Florida at the beginning of the campaign, after spending the first four seasons of his NHL career with the club.

In 43 games this season, Jovanovski has tallied two goals and six assists for eight points, and 19 penalty minutes.
