Panthers looking to keep some free agents

Panthers GM Dale Tallon is looking to sign forward Kris Versteeg and defenseman Jason Garrison to contract extensions, the South-Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.

While Versteeg is set to become a restricted free agent this summer, Garrison is looking at unrestricted free agency, but Tallon is hoping to keep them in Florida.

The GM has admitted to working on potential extensions and starting the negotiations, though he mentioned nothing is imminent.

"We haven't talked in last couple of weeks but we started the ball rolling," Tallon told the paper. "Yeah, hopefully (be part of this franchise). It's up to them but obviously Steeger we have his rights. He's an RFA. Garry, obviously, we don't want to lose him but business is business. We're prepared to do the right thing by both of them. They're important pieces of the puzzle."

Tallon is hoping to keep both players as part of the organization, as Versteeg has become the club's leading-scorer with 17 goals and 22 assists for 39 points in 41 games, while Garrison has put up 11 goals and seven assists for 18 points in 42 contests.
