Oilers sign Nugent-Hopkins to 7-year extension

The Edmonton Oilers have signed young star Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to a seven-year, $42 million contract extension.

Nugent-Hopkins, 20, registered four goals and 20 assists for 24 points in 40 games with the Oilers last season.

The native of Burnaby, B.C., has totaled 22 goals and 54 assists for 76 points, along with a plus-1 rating and 24 penalty minutes in 102 career NHL regular-season games over two seasons in Edmonton.

Nugent-Hopkins was originally drafted first-overall by the Oilers in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
