Gagner signs three-year contract

The Edmonton Oilers have signed restricted free agent center Sam Gagner to a three-year, $14.4 million contract, avoiding salary arbitration.

Gagner, 23, recorded 14 goals and 24 assists for in 48 games last season.

The London, Ontario native has spent his entire NHL career with the Oilers and has accumulated 91 goals and 167 assists for 258 points, along with 203 penalty minutes, in 414 career games.

His 258 points rank him 17th in Oilers all-time scoring.

Gagner, Edmonton's first-round selection, sixth overall, in the 2007 NHL Draft, has represented his country several times internationally, most recently at the 2008 World Hockey Championship. He also participated in the 2007 World Junior Hockey Championship.

Gagner played in the 2008 NHL Young Stars Game in Atlanta as a part of the NHL All-Star weekend.
