Whitney a target for Senators?

The Oilers could be in a position to trade veteran defenseman Ryan Whitney and GM Steve Tambellini might have already pitched him to the Ottawa Senators.

According to the Edmonton Journal, with Sens star Erik Karlsson out for the season, Whitney could be an option for Ottawa.

The Journal claims Tambellini has "probably" already called Senators GM Bryan Murray about Whitney, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent July 5.

Whitney has struggled this season in Edmonton, and has been a healthy scratch at times this year, and moving him isn't set in stone.

The Oilers have been looking for upgrades on the blueline, and Whitney might only command a draft pick.
