When teammate Theo Peckham returns, the Oilers will have eight defensemen on a 23-man roster and Whitney, who is slated to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, could be moved.
However, Edmonton GM Steve Tambellini maintains that his only wish is to see Whitney play better, stating that the club is not actively looking to trade the veteran defenseman.
TFP recently reported that the Oilers were keeping all of their trading options open and a close eye on the Toronto Maple Leafs and other Eastern Conference teams. Tambellini is believed to be looking for a two-way forward and a top-four defenseman.
In 10 games this season, Whitney has posted three assists, and six penalty minutes.
