Despite missing the playoffs for three straight seasons at the helm, the report indicates owner Daryl Katz is satisfied with the club's progression as well as the development of their young draft picks like Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Taylor Hall, and Jordan Eberle.
As for head coach Tom Renney, who is also in the final year of his deal, he might not be dismissed at the moment since the Oilers have lost several players due to injuries, but still remains on thin ice as the club has fallen 14 points behind a playoff spot.
While an extension seems likely for Tambellini, Renney might not be as fortunate.
"I can't control at the end of the day in the deepest parts of their hearts how they feel about their situation and us and all of that sort of stuff," Renney told the Sun. "All I can do is exhibit perseverance, commitment, work habits and the right attitude, accepting the challenge and all those types of things."
The Oilers are expected to wait until the end of the season to judge the work of Renney before making a decision on whether he is the right guy going forward for the team's rebuilding process.
