Souray trade inching closer

The Oilers are expected to trade veteran defenseman Sheldon Souray in the near future, now that his no-trade clause has lifted, the Edmonton Sun reports.

Souray, 33, had a no-trade clause that expired yesterday. The Oilers are now free to trade him to any destination they desire.

There has been plenty of interest in Souray, with the likes of the St. Louis Blues, Los Angeles Kings, Dallas Stars, Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks among the interested parties.

"I've had some discussions," Oilers GM Steve Tambellini told the Sun. "But I don't feel I can tell you I've made progress at this point."

Souray has two-years left on his contract that will pay him $5.4 million per season.
