Nilsson must prove himself
TheFourthPeriod.com

If Robert Nilsson wants to remain in the Oilers lineup on a full time basis, he's going to have to up his play, reports the Edmonton Sun.

Nilsson, who will play tonight after missing several games with an injury, is getting another shot to prove himself a consistent Oilers player.

"We've been losing too much lately and I still feel like I have something to prove," he told the Sun. "I can't wait to play. You want to be a guy that they count on every day, that they can look up and say 'Bobby is here, he's going to make something happen for us.' Right now I don't really feel like that."

Nilsson has been the subject of numerous trade rumors this season, and if he doesn't perform well enough in the eyes of his coaching staff, the team could end up moving or waiving him.

"I know what I have to do to be a successful player," he said. "I have to play my game. You can't change who you are. You can improve yourself, but I have to play my style of game."

The Oilers are going to need more than Nilsson to be on his game if they want to climb back up the standings. Bobby definitely needs to prove he can be a regular contributor to their lineup, and I expect him to step up to the challenge, but Edmonton needs guys like Sam Gagner and Andrew Cogliano chipping in, as well. -- David Pagnotta
