It appears veteran forward Jaromir Jagr is intent on returning to the NHL next season and could very well sign with the Edmonton Oilers, sources tell TFP.
Jagr, 37, signed a two-year deal with Avangard Omsk of the Russian KHL in the off-season and remains obligating to the club next year.
However, Jagr is currently negotiating out of his contract with Omsk.
Jagr, who has accumulated, 646 goals and 1,599 points in 1,273 career NHL regular-season games, played for Omsk during the NHL lockout.
According to a well-placed source, Jagr asked for prepayment of his salary during the lockout year. Alex Kovalev confirmed this fact in a recent interview with Sovetsky Sport.
It's believed the same arrangement was made for Jagr to return to Omsk from the New York Rangers this season.
It that is the case, Jagr would need to reimburse the club in order to get out of his contract, should the two sides come to an agreement.
It has been widely speculating that Jagr would end up signing with the Oilers for next season.
The Oilers have shown an interest in the native of Kladno, Czech Republic and a one-year contract is reportedly on the table worth just over $7 million.
It's not clear when, or if, Jagr will get out of his current deal with Omsk, however sources indicate a resolution could come after the KHL playoffs are complete.
