Oilers trade Stoll to Kings, acquire Visnovsky

TheFourthPeriod.com

The Edmonton Oilers have traded forward Jarret Stoll and defenseman Matt Greene to the Los Angeles Kings for blueliner Lubomir Visnovsky.

Visnovsky, 31, led the Kings in scoring among defensemen for the third consecutive season in 2007-08, registering eight goals and 33 assists for 41 points.

In 499 games over seven seasons, all with the Kings, Visnovsky ranks fourth all-time in goals (70), assists (209) and points (279) by a Kings defenseman.

"It's never easy to give up a player of Lubo's caliber, but for the direction of this franchise, this exchange allows us to add two players who fit the long-term vision for this team," Kings GM Dean Lombardi said.

"We appreciate Lubo's service and outstanding play these last seven years in Los Angeles. He was not only a great player for us, but a class act."

Stoll, 26, tallied 14 goals and 22 assists for 36 points, along with 74 penalty minutes, in 81 games with the Oilers last season.

In 286 career NHL regular season games, Stoll has 59 goals, 106 assists and 238 penalty minutes.

Green, 25, recorded one assist and 53 penalty minutes in 46 games with the Oilers last season.

In 151 career NHL regular season games (all with the Oilers), Greene has one goals, 12 assists and 205 penalty minutes.

The Kings were trying to trade Visnovsky and the Oilers wanted to move Stoll. It didn't take these teams long to find each other. This might mean the end of Joni Pitkanen's tenure in Edmonton, as the Oilers are believed to be shopping him.
