Oilers sign Gilbert, Nilsson TheFourthPeriod.com
The Edmonton Oilers have signed impending restricted free agents Tom Gilbert and Robert Nilsson to new long-term contracts.
Gilbert, 25, has inked a six-year, $24 million contract, while Nilsson, 23, has signed a three-year, $5.5 million deal.
In his first season with the Oilers, Gilbert tallied 13 goals and 20 assists in 82 games this year.
Nilsson registered 10 goals and 31 assists in 71 games with the Oilers this season.
Gilbert was originally drafted 129th overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He was traded to Edmonton on March 8, 2004 in exchange for Tommy Salo and a 2005 sixth-round choice (Justin Mercier).
Nilsson was selected 15th overall by the New York Islanders in the 2003 draft, and was later traded to the Oilers on Feb. 27, 2007 along with Ryan O'Marra and a 2007 first-round pick (Alex Plante) in exchange for Ryan Smyth.
