Souray signs with Oilers

TheFourthPeriod.com

Unrestricted free agent defenseman Sheldon Souray has finally found a new home, TFP has learned.

Despite reports that he may be heading to the San Jose Sharks, New Jersey Devils or New York Rangers, Souray has inked a five-year, $27 million contract with the Edmonton Oilers.

In 81 games for the Montreal Canadiens last season, the native of Elk Point, Alberta scored 26 goals and 38 assists for added 64 points.

Souray has played in 506 career NHL games with the Devils and Canadiens and has accumulated 66 goals, 120 assists and 812 penalty minutes.

The two-time All-Star was originally drafted by the Devils in the third-round (71st overall) of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. He was dealt to the Habs on March 1, 2000, along with Josh Dewolf and a second-round pick in exchange for Vladimir Malakhov.
