To date, the Wings rank 17th in the NHL in goals-for per game (2.64), and 20th in the NHL in goals-against per game (2.93), and while the usual suspects have been contributing -- Henrik Zetterberg leads the team with 18 points, Jonathan Ericsson is a plus-3 -- it might not be good enough to keep them in the playoff hunt by the latter part of the season.
Several teams have interesting players available that are of interest to Holland, such as Phoenix Coyotes defenseman Keith Yandle, but the price tags seem to be too high.
To make matters worse, the Wings placed winger Todd Bertuzzi on the injured list yesterday with a bad back.
Forward Gustav Nyquist was from Grand Rapids of the AHL, where he leads the team with 45 points in 47 games, and played last night, but Holland wants more support up front.
The Wings will continue to search for outside help, but with several key players on the IR, Holland could play the waiting game before pulling the trigger on a deal, unless one falls into his lap.
