Holmstrom to announce retirement TheFourthPeriod.com
Veteran Red Wings left wing Tomas Holmstrom is expected to announce his retirement in the near future, now that the lockout has ended, reports Michigan Live.
According to MLive.com, Holmstrom informed the club of his intentions "a while ago."
Holmstrom, who turns 40 on Jan. 23, accumulated 243 goals and 287 assists for 530 points, along with 769 penalty minutes, in 1,026 career regular-season games, all with the Red Wings.
His 122 powerplay goals puts him third in franchise history behind Nicklas Lidstrom (132) and Steve Yzerman (202).
The Red Wings will hold a press conference at Joe Louis Arena prior to the start of the regular-season to formally make the announcement.
The four-time Stanley Cup champion (1997, 1998, 2002, 2008) was originally drafted by the Wings in the 10th round (257th overall) of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.
