Zetterberg, 32, skated in 23 games with Zug of the Swiss National A League this season, registering 16 goals and 16 assists for 32 points, and a plus-17 rating.
"I'm going back to Detroit in the middle of the week," he said.
The native of Njurunda, Sweden, collected 22 goals and 47 assists for 69 points in 82 games with the Red Wings last season.
Meanwhile, Wings center Pavel Datsyuk isn't sure when he'll be leaving Russia.
Datsyuk, 34, has played in 30 games with CSKA Moscow of the KHL this season and has tallied 10 goals and 24 assists for 34 points.
"I hope to still play at least a couple of games for CSKA (before going back)," he told Russia paper Sport-Express.
"At least I celebrated the New Year at home, which hasn't happened for a long time."
In 70 games with Detroit last season, Datsyuk registered 19 goals and 48 assists for 67 points.
