Filppula out for 6-8 weeks

Red Wings forward Valtteri Filppula, who is spending the lockout in his native Finland, suffered a knee injury during his stint in Europe.

The Detroit Free Press reports that the 28-year-old is expected to miss six to eight weeks after spraining the medial collateral ligament in his right knee during Tuesday's game for Jokerit in the Finnish league.

Filppula posted career-highs of 23 goals and 66 points in 81 games for the Wings last season.

He is in the final season of his contract and could become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
