While it was believed that Detroit Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk opted to stay in his native Russia and signed with his former club, AK Bars Kazan, Yahoo Sports Dmitry Chesnokov reports that no deal has been finalized.
According to Chesnokov, AK Bars Kazan team officials released a statement indicating that they had not signed Datsyuk to a contract.
Datsyuk, 34, is expected to make a decision in the next few days about playing for his former club.
The veteran forward played for Ak Bars Kazan in the 2000-01 season, before starting his NHL career with the Wings.
During the 2004-05 lockout, Datsyuk played with the KHL's Moscow Dynamo.
