Wings sign Colaiacovo, re-sign Abdelkader

The Detroit Red Wings have signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo to a two-year, $5 million contract.

The Wings have also re-signed restricted free agent forward Justin Abdelkader to a four-year contract.

Colaiacovo, 29, picked up two goals and 17 assists for 19 points in 64 games with the St. Louis Blues last season.

In 370 career NHL games with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Blues, Colaiacovo has accumulated 30 goals and 109 assists for 139 points.

He was drafted by the Maple Leafs with the 17th overall pick in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

Abdelkader, 25, tallied eight goals and 14 assists for 22 points in 81 games with the Red Wings last season.

He was selected in the second round (42nd overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
