Maltby nearing return to Detroit
TheFourthPeriod.com

It appears the Red Wings will be welcoming back veteran forward Kirk Maltby to the fold for the 2010-11 season, reports the Detroit News.

"We are having discussions with Detroit, and we hope that something will be finalized next week," Anton Thun, Maltby's agent, told the paper.

While Thun would not comment on how contract negotiations are progressing, he did indicate that he has had "conversations with others."

The Tampa Bay Lightning is among the teams also interested in Maltby.

However, it looks like the Wings and Maltby will be ironing out a new contract, believed to be a one-year deal, in the near future.
