Veteran enforcer Brad May has earned a tryout with the Red Wings and is expected to play in an exhibition game tonight, reports the Detroit Free Press.
May, who turns 38 in November, didn't receive any calls over the summer from teams interested in signing him.
"I just know he provides a physical presence," Wings coach Mike Babcock told the paper. "We don't feel we have much of it. We have had the ability to have Aaron Downey in the past couple years. We didn't have any this year. Sometimes it's a priority, especially in the early going."
"Money's awesome, no question about it, but it's not about that," May said. "I played in the National Hockey League for over half my life. ... My kids are 13 and 10. ... This is what I want."

Great on May for taking this step. The Wings need someone like him as insurance and if he can handle himself at camp, he should earn a two-way deal. -- David Pagnotta
