Wings lose Hudler to Russia

Despite their best efforts, Red Wings management wasn't able to convince forward Jiri Hudler to re-sign with the team instead of heading off to Russia next season.

Hudler, 25, has signed a two-year, $10 million tax-free contract with Dynamo Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League.

"I'm going forward, planning that he's not going to be in a Red Wings uniform," Holland told the Detroit Booth News.

Hudler is the fourth Red Wings free agent to leave the club after Marian Hossa and Tomas Kopecky signed with Chicago, and Mikael Samuelsson left for Vancouver.

According to the Booth News, the Red Wings offered Hudler three contract options, a three-, four- or five-year deal, worth between $2.5 million and $3 million a season.

Holland thought Hudler was going to re-sign with the club after he filed for arbitration.

The arbitration hearing will still occur, and Hudler would have to fulfill whatever contract is reached when and if he returns to the NHL.

There's a chance Hudler opts out of his contract with Dymano, however the paper suggests it's unlikely given the amount of money he'll make.
