Nill noncommittal on Ruff's future
TheFourthPeriod.com

Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill is busy weighing his options with the trade deadline two days away, and is expected to remain very busy leading up to Wednesday's 3pm ET deadline.

Nill has already traded winger Patrick Eaves to the Anaheim Ducks and has been fielding calls for forwards Patrick Sharp and Jiri Hudler, and defenseman Johnny Oduya, among others.

There has been plenty of interest in all three players, though TFP has learned talks involving Sharp may be taking a back seat, as Oduya seems to be a focal point.

Both Sharp and Oduya are in the final year of their respective contracts and can become unrestricted free agents July 1.

Off the ice, however, there are also questions being asked, as the future of head coach Lindy Ruff may be in jeopardy.

In an interview with the Dallas Morning News, Nill declined to get into specifics as it relates to his head coach's tenure behind the bench.

"That's not something I want to discuss," Nill told the Morning News' Mike Heika. "We'll sit down at the end of the year and analyze everything. That's our plan."

Asked if he's requested permission to speak with another team's coach or former coach who may still be under contract, Nill reiterated that he's "not going to discuss any of that."

Ruff is in the final year of his contract with the Stars and speculation has run wild that he won't be back next season.

Ruff, 57, has posted a 155-113-40 record in 308 games behind Dallas' bench, to date. The Stars are 24-28-10 in 62 games this season and have 20 left on the schedule.
