TheFourthPeriod.com

The Dallas Stars have acquired center Jason Spezza from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for right wing Alex Chiasson, left wing Alex Guptill, left wing Nicholas Paul and a 2015 second-round draft pick.

The Stars also receive forward Ludvig Karlsson from the Senators as part of the deal.

Spezza, 31, has one-year left on his contract, which pays him $4 million next season, though his salary cap hit is $7 million.

In 75 games with the Senators this past season, Spezza registered 23 goals and 43 assists for 66 points.

In 686 career NHL regular-season games, all with the Senators, Spezza has accumulated 251 goals and 436 assists for 687 points.

Spezza was drafted second-overall by the Senators in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

Chiasson, 23, registered 13 goals and 22 assists for 35 points in 79 games with the Stars this past season, his first full season in the NHL.

The Montreal native was originally drafted by the Stars in the second-round, 38th overall, of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Guptill, 22, was selected by the Stars in the third-round, 77th overall, of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, while the 19-year-old Paul was drafted by the Stars in the fourth-round, 101st overall, of the 2013 NHL Draft.
