Stars meet Ruff about coaching job

As TFP reported last week, Stars general manager Jim Nill and his managerial staff have started their search for a new head coach.

Stars assistant coach Curt Fraser and Texas Stars (AHL) head coach Willie Desjardins are among those expected to be interviewed for the opening.

According to the Dallas Morning News, the Stars have already spoken with former Buffalo Sabres bench boss Lindy Ruff.

Citing an unnamed source, the paper reports the Stars recently spoke with Ruff and are likely to have another discussion in the near future.

Former Vancouver Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault and Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Guy Boucher are also expected to have a chat with Nill in the coming days.

Nill is currently in Toronto this week for the NHL Draft Combine, which ends on Sunday.

Ruff, 53, was fired in February after coaching 1,165 games with the Sabres. He had been the Sabres' coach since 1997 and had a 571-432-162 record for a .559 winning percentage.

Vigneault, 52, became the 16th Head Coach in Canucks history on June 20, 2006. During his tenure, he led the Canucks to two Presidents Trophies, a Stanley Cup Final appearance, and six Northwest Division titles and post-season berths in all seven seasons with the club. He was fired on May 22.

Boucher, 41, was fired by the Lightning on March 24. In nearly three seasons with the Bolts, Boucher posted a 97-78-20 record in 195 games.
