During a conference call with the media following the move, Nieuwendyk indicated that he's still searching for other possible deals.
"There's a lot of time, and a lot of things will present themselves over the next month until the trading deadline," he said.
"I anticipate that we'll be having lots of discussions with teams. If something makes sense, we'll try to get involved."
Currently sixth in the Western Conference, the Stars will look to "buy" as the trade deadline nears, providing they continue this pace.
Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen, when healthy, has been solid between the pipes for Dallas, but the team's overall defensive game has struggled.
The Stars have roughly $11.5 million in available salary cap space this season. Nieuwendyk is believed to be in the market for a top-four defenseman and could pursue one in the coming weeks as the market opens up.
