Roy out until November
TheFourthPeriod.com

Forward Derek Roy, who was recently acquired by the Stars in a trade, underwent shoulder surgery on Wednesday and is expected to be out until November, Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk told the Dallas Morning News.

According to the paper, the 29-year-old was medically cleared prior to the trade with the Buffalo Sabres that included Steve Ott, but the issue was discovered during a deeper physical in Dallas.

"He played through it before and he could have played through it again, but we want the best Derek Roy we can get," Nieuwendyk told the paper. "It was a group decision, and we felt [surgery] was the best decision."

Roy was acquired by Dallas on July 2 in exchange for Ott and Adam Pardy. He posted 17 goals and 27 assists for 44 points in 80 games last season.
