Stars fire head coach Tippett

TheFourthPeriod.com

The Dallas Stars have fired head coach Dave Tippett after six years behind the bench. A replacement has not been immediately announced.

Earlier this month, the Stars hired Joe Nieuwendyk as its new GM, reassigning Brett Hull and Les Jackson elsewhere in the organization.

Tippett, 47, joined the Stars in May 2002 after serving as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Kings. In his six seasons behind the Stars bench, he led the team to a 271-156-28-37 record.

TSN.ca is reporting that the Stars have asked for permission to talk to former Los Angeles Kings coach Marc Crawford, who remains under contract to the Kings.

From the Editor: David Pagnotta is traveling to Detroit for the 2009 Stanley Cup Finals and was unavailable for comment.
